Infrastructure Engineering at HubSpot? Vs Product?

Apr 16 11 Comments

I just got an offer for SSE1 at HubSpot, but the spot I applied for had been filled so they moved me into an infrastructure team. I'm at about 7 years in product where I've worked a bit on some infrastructure as in automating manual tasks, but I have no real experience with it. I enjoy working with customers, getting feedback, and improving on a product and long term I see myself in more of a product owner or managerial position, or maybe a team lead if it goes that way. However, I hadn't really considered this option before either.

Given that, how is infrastructure engineering, specifically at HubSpot or generically? I enjoy the problem solving aspects of the job and I think exposure to all the concepts I studied while doing system design practice would be useful to my career growth, but I'm worried about essentially changing trajectory of my career a bit.
