SA Role is Boring

Joined AWS as an SA not too long ago. Initially was told that it would be an amazing role with lots of impact by building demos, delivering important presentations and driving innovation. Instead, my day to day is spent answering a bunch of random inquiries from customers, performing administrative tasks and attending meetings that add no value to anyone. Does being an SA ever get better?

Mmm.. interesting my experience has been a little different. There's lots of opportunities to do whatever you want on the SA role, from being super technical, hands-on, generalist, specialist in a tech domain or be focused in a business vertical, influencer, presenting and influencing CEOs, decision makers, doing demos, talks, events, be an evangelist to a large external audience or internally to the org and talking about trends, influencing industries and roadmaps. I mean, you literally own your career path as long as you're taking care of the customer. I found the SA role to be fast pace, challenging, demanding and very intense for myself, specially because I had to ramp up on some tech, keep learning new services or sharp my soft-skills, honestly it's not easy. I'm guessing that you're above the bar and may find it not challenging and that's good for you. I agree, there's the boring part like reporting data, answering basic questions, attending meetings but that's on you to figure out what's working and what's adding value. You need to be an owner and maybe stop attending those meetings that don't add value, create a scaling mechanism so AMs can answer basic questions, figure out a way to scale perf admin tasks, just my 2 cents. To your question "Does it get better?" Well, it's up to you, you own it, change yourself, move teams. Anyway, the SA role is not a good fit for everyone and you can find other roles within AWS, I encourage you to find a mentor, ask people around, shadow other roles to find what you're looking for.

Can you define what an "SA" is for those of us who don't work at Amazon?

Depends on which team you're on. My experience is diametrically opposite to yours. There's been so much learning in span of few months, I'm barely able to catch my breath!
