So their comp depends on cost of living of the location the employee is based out of. Seems fair 🤷‍♂️

    • Who says that? It’s known every location has certain bands. You expect to get paid the same in NYC and the Bay if you lived in Kansas?

recruiters say that. If you have two offers with the same TC, one is at low CoL and Google is at high CoL, and you ask Google to bump their offer since it’s in a high CoL city, the recruiter will tell you to fuck off as “CoL isn’t a factor when we give out offers”.

I'm surprised people think thats an okay policy. You're already costing them less as an employee by not requiring office space or any of the on-site perks. I dont understand the rationale for cutting pay based on COL. The point of working remotely from a LCOA is presumably to make your paycheck go further. What does it matter to your employer where you're located?

You're just repeating an explanation of how the policy works. I get how it works, I'm saying that it's a dumb policy.

Cause it seems like you don’t understand how the free market economy works. If you live in America you’re actually benefiting from this concept and you should learn to take the good with the bad.

How are people up in arms about this?!? This is totally fair. A company pays for the cost of labor and the cost of labor is very different between SF and Tulsa. If you want those sweet salary premiums, get your butts back to the office.
