I’m looking to transition to a new role and weighing opportunities in both corporate development and new ventures (strategy group). Corp. dev has a pretty defined career path, but I’m not as certain on the strategy team. My understanding is the strategy team helps determine new market segments to enter and works on the financing (capital markets, dealing with investors, possible IPO roadshow and go-public strategy, etc.).
I’m still early in my career, so want to make sure that I can make an informed decision. Any advice and insight into either role would be incredibly helpful.
The roles I’m looking at are generally in the same comp range (~130K base and 10%-20% bonus). I’m not as concerned about near term comp. and looking more at longer term exits and career development potential.
