What blocking? Transcripts of the same interview were already released a while ago. Go read that if you care that much :)
Regardless of your thoughts on this politically, executive privilege belongs to the office of president. So yes, a sitting president has executive privilege with regards to a conversation he had with others in the executive branch (law enforcement). And yes (even though that's not happening here), a sitting president could claim executive privilege for a former VP and the conversations they had in the executive branch. On the other hand, former guy has no executive privilege (unless allowed by a sitting president). You become a constitutional nobody the second you leave office. The privilege belongs to the office, not the person.
But that's like Trump pardoning himself which you all seem to have something against.
No it's not remotely the same. Executive privilege is meant to be self serving. Literally every time it's been claimed is by a president for himself. The pardon power cannot possibly be read to include self pardons. Many constitutional scholars have written about this. The old has written about it. It's not a close call.
Trump would be instantly dragged by the media on the spot if he tried this. But Joe? Totally fine.
If? He has done it.
It's (D)ifferent
You don’t understand how executive privilege works. It extends to the executive branch of which the VP is part of. Hence the name executive privilege, rather than presidential privilege. It’s a separation of powers thing.
Transcripts have already been released. GOP wants audio for campaign ads, that's not what the DOJ is for.
They copy every move from communist China, this is an epic of censorship. Typical authoritarian regime.
TC or GTFO
I'm too senile to be indicted with this charge.
