I am in IT, my team expects me to work more than 40 hours a week. I can't do that. I don't want to do that. I am an exempt employee. So HR says I am expected to do more than 40 hours of work per week. I stayed in this company for close to 10 years, I never worked more than 40 hours. But this team is expecting me to do overtime now. I can do utmost 45 , but the expectation is to work 60 hours a week. I checked with the manager during the interview for this job if there is any overnight work or weekend work? He confidently said no, they have great wlb. So I joined this team. Then the manager changed. I tried to get out , but market is bad. I like my industry, I like what I do, I have the right skillset. I have the right education. I have the right experience. At this point I don't have any side hustle. I thought about entrepreneurship. I have 0 experience. I don't have the right skillset or education to start a business. I want to stay in the same industry but on a 40 hour work week schedule. I can do overtime, but I expect additional pay or time off. Are there non - exempt employment opportunities for IT employees? Are there any labor laws enforcing work hours for IT employees? What are my realistic options? TC: 150k
Life is about getting away with things, not meeting expectations. If someone expects you to do something, simply agree politely and do what you think is reasonable.
I tried this too. I delivered what is reasonable for the allocated time. It is considered as low performance.
My delivery was not accepted as complete.
Go live in Germany
Germany folks have to work with Indian and Americans, they work outside their business hours all the time.
This is what happens when all companies stops recruiting. Companies can’t hire new people to fulfill their positions, and employees are not able to switch jobs, so weird things happen to them.
80 hours
No one is forced to do anything. U can leave if you don’t like it.
9-5 may not be possible with your current team and skillset, and you don't grind your way out of it. I have had only one 9-5 job in my career, at Google. Every other company has been 45-50 hrs, with occasional (4? w/yr) heriosm up to 80 hrs. Whatever your company expects, take an extra couple hours to understand where the work came from and why, along with tradeoffs associated. That's how you grow. TC: 870K
That's normal. I do 100 hours a week
YOE?

Tried this too for 2 years. I attended close to 50 interviews. Close to 15 final rounds. No offer.
