Job security. If you are mostly okay at your job, it is really hard to fire someone for any reason. Bonuses are routinely funded at 100%. The company is so vast you may work with the same people a year later, or you may never run into them again.
Politics. EVERYTHING is a decision by committee. What takes 1 week in most organizations to do manually takes 7 months at this company, despite it being automated, due to SO MANY manual approvals, reviews, and committees. Not an exaggeration. Even approvals might hint that they're scrutinized in any way, but having personally seen senior- and middle-managers hit "approve all" on the various requests they need to review without even opening them, it does not add any value. Each major initiative and migration inevitably underestimates the long turnaround times, leading to frustration at any scrutiny, attempts to escalate formal requests moments after they're filed, and LOTS of shadow IT.
