Comp is average for Netherlands. Depending on the team, you can mostly wfh (I’m expected to be in the office once a week). Family friendly environment. Surprisingly, lots of innovation is going on depending on your team, so there are chances to work on high impact and high visibility projects. Some people move to FAANG after working at Elsevier, which suggests that Elsevier can be a nice step in your career, in my opinion.
Culture of overwork - don’t believe the 36 hour contact you get. You’ll be working 40-45 if you learn to say no, and if you don’t you’ll end up working on weekends - this is my experience based on my specific design team. Lots of people are on burnout leave. My manger doesn’t want to say no to their stakeholders and just asks me to do work that is not ‘perfect’, meaning that I have 0 time to produce work I can be proud of and that would put me to promotion. UX doesn’t have much visibility in the company despite having VP of UX, which ends up in low budget for tools, hiring, etc.
