Boomers like this place, because it used to be "le goog" of the 60s/70s/80s/90s. Almost all of the communication/computation tech that you are using now, came from Bell Lab, or somehow related to it. Very laid back. More like a research lab at university than a corporate R&D. Even the offices looks like those 60's gov office buildings or some university. Some teams do interesting projects. Compensation is okay, not bad. It has a cool science museum, where they have the world's first transistor.
Bell Lab's heyday is long gone, now a history (just like Nokia). It used to be the coolest and most prestigious place to work, even during the 90s. But now, it's dead and should be included in UNESCO world heritage site. Management is utter crap. Might be a good place for short term, learners, university students or for those who want to pursue career in academia.
