Union benefits and protections through TAG 839 Many supportive and talented individuals across production roles. Usually teams are respectful, kind, and fun. Work life balance is possible (taking PTO, logging out, enforcing limits of your role, post-show supervisor sabbatical) Staggered yearly production schedules allow opportunities to jump off a project before it gets overwhelming or at least be strategic with casting Each production is an opportunity to fix problems from before if the correct pov is able to influence planning and decision-making. Sometimes projects do learn from past mistakes. Disneyland admission if you like that
Questionable long-term outlook with Vancouver “sister studio” primed to undercut domestic union work. Floundering creative and managerial leadership prone to repeating the same short-sighted mistakes. Project compression from 2 year production timeline, failure to stick to “final” decisions, requests for redos trickle down to disproportionally burden lower level artists and TDs. Gutting of shorts and side projects and entrenched leadership cronyism means few opportunities for career growth or changed perspective to improve project structure. Leadership seems increasingly out of touch with the realities of production. Uncompetitive pay scale compared to games and VFX. In-house tools are often wildly behind industry standard, off-the-shelf tools and pipelines. Each production is an opportunity to worsen problems from before if the incorrect pov is able to influence planning and decision-making. Sometimes projects double down on past mistakes.
