I am a new manager to a team of technology product owners (PO). I need help in how to deal with a business partner (BP) that is causing issues for my team. It is important to maintain good relationship as we will need to work with them and their team regularly. The problem is they are non technical and come to every meeting with an agenda to prod, make the team do more work, unnecessary documentation, however, in spite of catering to their every need, any decision that they need to make is turned into a meeting that they will request the PO to schedule and would most of the times not attend or ask a reschedule. This causes a lot of stress to PO as there are set schedules for production releases. This is a pattern and the PO escalated to me that they are demotivated that the BP does not take accountability for anything. I have also noticed similar attitude/behavior from them in other areas of my team. It's almost like they treat IT like a tier 2 citizen at work. BP is trying to get a promotion and seems to have their own agenda and not a good team member. Any suggestions, ideas how I can coach my team and also get the BP to understand what they are doing and set expectations? Thank You.
