I’m seeing several posts on LinkedIn claiming that the diminishing gap between the quality of life in India and the West means that it’s no longer advisable for Indians to spend craploads of $$$ on getting Masters degrees in the US and then spend years dealing with visa uncertainty/immigration issues etc. Do people really feel this way or is this just venting/ranting about the well-known H1-B issues and green card backlog?
They are ruining Canada now.
Stripe can you refer me
@mlm_man 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Many do. Always have. Half my cousins refused to leave India in the last 10 years. The USA or bust mindset is from a couple of decades or before ago.
> Half my cousins refused to leave India in the last 10 years. 100% of my cousins and 98% of my high school/college classmates are in my home country now and never thought about leaving. This is the common case for non Indian.
It is true for advanced OECD/ high percapita countries. Also true for extremely poor third world countries (GC lottery / refugee is their primary way to come here). Some middle income countries with low educational attainment levels also have this. But India is unique in that it has all these categories combined in it.
Yes India is not what it used to be! Opportunities are everywhere to folks who can see!
Nah. That’s just someone who can’t make it to the U.S. says.
Someone who can’t make it in india goes to the US
Sure 😂
Yupp. Very true
Yes. I know multiple families you moved back. I also know 15+ people in India from my previous job who have turned down offers from their companies to move to the US. "Are you telling me, I need to move halfway across the world to do dishes and mow my lawn, while living an isolated life away from family and stuck in the visa queue?" No thanks. Literally so many people, including my ex. That's how we broke up 😭
Very true. Except for Andhra folks, now people with good high paying jobs don't aspire to come to US anymore
Gujjus and Gultis love the US.
exactly as Microsoft said - the visa applications is crazy now - especially F1 visa. Lol. You won't believe the wait time for a F1 visa appointment is like a year in India now. Every Tom, dick and harry is applying for it. Remember getting appointments easy 5 years back in Ind.
I personally feel that american dream is not a dream anymore. It’s a nightmare.
Anyone with half brains will either stay put in India and/or move back if they are in a never ending GC race vs giving their kids anxiety about what happens after they age out. At even 1/4th the comp, one can lead a quality life in India with the bonus of being closer to their friends/family.
what about someone with “full brains”?
They wouldn’t have moved out to begin with :)
The visa statistics published by department of state say otherwise
