Thinking about how I'll celebrate my next milestone of 1.5M. Taking suggestions. TC: 340K
You’re only ‘celebrating’ is posting on Blind & stroking your vanity. It literally adds nothing to anyone.
Are you new here?
Showed him lmao
Marriage proposals, where to send them?
Same. At 1.5M at 30M. Can't afford a house in the bay area though.
Yoe? How many years of work did it take you?
6.5 YOE. Was in G the whole time.
Will you be 30M next year or stay 30F?
Congrats, good work. Are you immigrant??
Yeah I moved to USA when I was 4. My parents are incredible and are the most selfless people - most immigrant kids can relate. We grew up in a 1 bedroom apt as a family of 4 - my parents converted the dining nook and added a curtain rod for their makeshift bedroom. My dad worked as an engineer but didn't make much, and my mom was a SAHM as most women were in the village she grew up in. My dad forgo'ed buying a house and instead saved for me and my sibling to go to college without any student loans. I cannot repay my parents enough for all the sacrifices they made, especially with having no relatives in America. I remember as a kid, my mom bought those international minute cards and hurriedly talked to her family before the line disconnected. She'd have 30 international minutes to last her the whole week. My dad instilled in me discipline and a value for education and travel and a strong moral code. My mom taught me to value the joy of the simple things in life, patience, laughter, and curiosity. As a kid I never noticed any financial struggles as I had their love and attention, and I had the most special and pure childhood because of them. I am everything I am because of them and my brother. Now I'm the first woman to graduate university and have a career in my family :) (but I can't wait to FIRE lol)
That's awesome OP, great to hear your story - I can appreciate it since my family had similar circumstances too. 😄 nit: it's forewent 😛
All the best. Happy for you
Thanks! All the best to you too 🥺
I love to see it! Congrats! Really don’t see a lot of women around here so it’s a nice change :) - are you tech or non tech?
Congrats! Share how you got there with others
Thanks! I did it the boring way by limiting my expenses and investing >70% every year. My first few years as a new grad, I tried to extend the college way of living for as long as I could - I had roommates and lived frugally and had ~40K annual expenses in South Bay. Now I live in Manhattan and don't have roommates and I have around ~55K annual expenses. I love to cook and make most of my dinners (G provides lunch), I mainly eat out if I'm socializing or if I'm sick. I ride the subway most of the time, and I prioritize my budget for travel (1-2 international and 5-10 domestic trips a year). I am very blessed that my dad paid for my university fees and I have no debt. Since the beginning I always invested some portion of my paycheck. I prioritized in order: Max 401k, HSA, after-tax 401K (mega backdoor), Roth IRA (backdoor), rest in brokerage. I held onto nearly all my GOOG stock; it was very risky but it paid off for me as I now carry ~600k of GOOG. I have 6 months of expenses saved in a savings account. I never tried to time the market, just always invested every pay period. VTSAX is my go-to in my brokerage account and target year fund for my retirement accounts. I tried to ride the meme stock wave in 2020 and lost 5k. If I were to stock pick, I'd just make a FAANG/top 20 tech companies portfolio. TL;DR: be frugal and only splurged once in a while. Invested heavily in VTSAX and held onto GOOG.
Sorry but that sounds miserable OP
