I may consider a change in job. But I have been adviced no meta, as it has bad work life balance, hard to be promoted, because it is very demanding, and some backstabbing. Even a lot of work is needed for decent performance review rating, etc But these might be rumor, if anyone (esp. from meta)can share what it is like in meta, it will be more helpful.
Bad 4/12 months. Go to meta for the money instead of what people say
You're welcome to see if they're truth. People are in Meta only here for money trading it with their health.
Meta has slow promotions? Who told you that?
Ive had a few people work there including myself. Unfortunately, it's like you say. I have no idea why the culture is like that. I worked on the vendor side and it's 100% the worse. On the FTE side, some of the SWE have the lost the will the live there and would consider it clown town. You might end up getting a project you might not like and would actually be worse then what your currently working on.
Omg 😱
Meta requires you to work a lot and sacrifice your personal life. But promotions are very quick there. If you're young and have no kids, just go there for the money.
No wonder a lot of young people get the offer or work there lol
It's kinda self-reinforcing, if people feel like they need to compete and backstab, they will. I think a lot of people are just trying to survive to collect their unvested stock granted at <$200. Few people are interested in doing good work or sticking around for long, they are just trying to stake out their position and stay safe. The collaborative culture has never been that great to start with, and the current situation is making it pretty hard for new hires to ramp up. Not so much that you need to work hard or be especially good to keep up, but the ubiquitous toxic behavior and anxiety will infect you too. Don't expect to be welcomed with open arms, expect to be exploited a bit and eyed with suspicion by your new colleagues and collaborators. There's a good chance you don't find a good place to settle in for the long term and end up leaving soon. If they are offering you enough money, come be part of the problem :)
Oh my. Thanks for the insights! Reading this makes me not able to breath well. 🤣
Backstabbing is definitely a thing. Just make sure you swing it first
How is CringedIn? Narrowly got denied from there. Wonder if i dodged a bullet 🤣
My wlb is great. I work 40 hours per week and don’t feel any pressure to do more. Also I was recently promoted in just 1.5 years while having good wlb so I don’t think it’s hard to get promoted personally. Also I haven’t been stabbed in the back here. These qualities are team dependent though so ymmv.
The work culture is as crappy as it can get to downright hostile
