L6 at Snap, TC of $700k, I joined at an opportune time and at a point made $2.8M in 1 year. Total NW is $8.5M, got really lucky with some yolo bets during Covid in NVDA, TSLA and FB, and again, thanks to Snap. Not married, 31 years old, I’m able to find a new date when I want but most just fizzle out because I have commitment issues. Not sure if I’ll ever be able to marry someone. Dating/sex life is as good as it can be for an India guy otherwise. I have the option to move to NYC for a job at a famous top finance company, TC of $850k, all cash or to Bay Area for a TC of $800k senior staff. What should I do? On one hand I’m tempted to just continue at Snap with great WLB, great standing in the org, well respected etc. While OTOH I feel like trying out something new. Help me decide please! #engineering #software #swe
NYC has better dating scene. As for changing from Tech to Finance? That’s your call, no harm in trying. Can’t you relocate to NYC via Snap first and then later change the company if needed?
Man, i’d love to pick your brain on how you made 8.5M at such a young age. You mentioned you YOLO’d into a bunch of stock that popped off. Is majority of your NW in these stocks? Great going, and i hope you keep achieving greater heights.
Stay in LA
Re: dating, the issue with most Indian guys is that they try to limit themselves, such as age they need the woman to be strictly younger to themselves, or, they have the least interesting personalities and try to heavily control the women and women's choices. Indian culture is quite oppressive towards women and the men don't realize they're doing it.
To add another one, they don't care about working out or being fit, most of them don't value hard work or discipline. Just show that you're not the typical Indian in any of these aspects and you'll already do great in dating.
Wow talk about stereotyping 😂
Try nyc. You can always move back!
You are gonna be in mid life crisis earlier than average folks 😂
There are probably only a handful of active blinders who are even qualified to talk about this from experience. I am not one of them but it feels like you have earned yourself a ticket to do whatever the fuck you want to do for rest of your life (work wise).
Dang man. How did you made those bets!
$8.5mm of US Treasuries will earn you ~$400,000 a year passively, with no state tax. So you can live in HCOL like NYC, California without any of the high tax arguments. What do you find fulfilling? The music festival circuit is fulfilling for me. Get a rave fam eventually, and occasionally have sex with the festival goers.
8.5M NW I would say just chill.
