I recently received a verbal offer from Amazon, and they are preparing to send me a written offer. The recruiter provided the total compensation, but I haven't received a detailed breakdown yet. Should I contact my recruiter immediately to suggest a preferred breakdown before they finalize the written offer? Also, is there much flexibility in how the percentage is allocated between base, sign-on bonus, and RSUs? I've read some posts stating that a higher base salary is always better. Could someone help me understand why this is the case? Also if I'm already at the max pay range for my level (L5), will this limit my ability to receive annual pay increases based on performance, affecting both my base and RSUs? I'm concerned this might leave me stuck with the same pay year after year. TC: 270k, YoE: 5 #amazon #offer #negotiation #tech
What’s the location? Also check levels fyi and filter by location to see the base range.
It's Seattle!
Also what you fear is a real possibility. It could get worse in year 3/4 if the stock goes down. You could end up with a much lower TC. For me, year 2 TC was 10% less than year 1, year 3 was 5% less than year 1 as the stock had recovered. I also got 2-3 base pay increases every year
Oh no... what's the average percentage increase for base pay? I'm already receiving the max TC for my level, but I thought the cap on base salary had been removed recently. I was hoping this would mean I could still qualify for annual base salary increases based on performance
You'll qualify but you'd be lucky to even maintain the TC especially if you're band penetration is high. If the stock is down they'll blame market conditions and if it is high they'll say there will be no base pay increases this year as the stock is up. Long story short only join if you don't mind getting paid the same or a bit lower for the first 4 years and a huge cliff after that
I haven’t seen much wiggle room with bonus but I’ve seen people easily adjust their RSUs down and their base up, doesn’t change their TC but makes it more base heavy. A higher base is always best. Think of it like RSUs that vest every pay period. If you believe in the long term AMZN you can take that extra base and buy some shares otherwise you’re free to buy something else. In either case, you need to wait for RSUs to vest but you get the base increase immediately.
So you wanna be PIPed eh?
After how many days of the interview, you received the update or verbal ?
whats the breakdown of 270k?
Remember that you’re making from a fake Amazon to real Amazon 😢😅
