Works for lowest common denominator, great career advancement and easy to progress. If you don't have much going on, great way to get something started. Gi bill, free Healthcare, etc. Make it easy for an 18 year old to get a head start.
Not much after first contract, terrible management often, 90% of the army is in a terrible unit and has terrible work life balance. If you are in combat arms you'll hate life.
