Hi All, I graduated few months back, and started at Amazon (Boston) as a RS. My PhD. is in Neuroscience and I am currently on F1. Last week, I got an offer from Jane Street for a ML role. I have an offer from PathAI also. Is it safe to switch - considering I will be going through the H1B process next year? How difficult will it be to justify working for Jane Street, while having a degree in Neuroscience? Or should I just stick to PathAI for now till my H1B clears (working in the same field as my degree)? Thoughts? Don't want to stay at Amazon as I don't enjoy the work (not much of science). The difference between PathAI and Jane Street in terms of TC is huge. But PathAI probably will have no H1B issues. #h1b Current TC: 235k PathAI offer: ~180K Jane Street offer: 400K
Jane street is a no brainer. Worst case check if they could send to other office in UK etc ?
Join PathAI, we are going to moon when we IPO 🚀
Interesting, is IPO in near horizon? and how is your experience been so far?
Do you have few courses that can relate to your job at Jane?
I don’t know the rules myself, but I’d recommend you talk to our recruiter about this. I’m sure we hire PhDs on F1 in seemingly irrelevant fields, so you wouldn’t be the first one.
Honestly, a Neuroscience degree does not sound related to an ML role at Jane Street. If you get RFE, you need to write letters to justify how it’s related basically. Have a lawyer read through it. Nobody can guarantee, it’s up to USCIS to make the decision and decide whether they want to approve or not. Maybe JS can justify your skill sets for you. Nobody knows
Got it! And I am guessing those letters can come from my Ph.D. dissertation committee? Correct? Or would they need to be from people in the ML area? Just to add - I did mostly computational stuff - dynamical systems and time series analysis on neural data.
Take Jane street’s job description, have them try to see how your major overlaps. Whoever is the best person to write it. Gather as much evidence as you can. RFE requires a lot of papers.
