On one hand, Texas (where Austin is) passed a Talibani anti-abortion law with a $10,000 bounty. On the other, Florida single-handedly contributed 1300+ deaths to USA daily death tally of 3000 yesterday!! I live in Denver, CO and love it here! But I’d like to know what folks in HCOL cities are thinking.. worth moving from the Bay Area, LA, NYC, Seattle or even Denver to shithole states like TX (Austin, Dallas) and FL (Miami especially)? #abortion ##covid-19 Edit: I’m not a liberal and I don’t agree with all of California, Washington or Colorado’s policies. But I’m legitimately fearful of my family’s safety and long-term future in states dominated by gun-lovers, And white supremacists!

Jealousy witnessing my same-sex crush get married. Yes I work at Nvidia but I have nothing else.
You don’t move to Texas or Florida as a liberal, the locals dont want you there and you dont respect their way of life. Its basic knowledge
You do realize that NYC/NJ have had more covid deaths per capita than Florida right? 🐑
Almost all of NY/NJ deaths were BEFORE vaccines. Majority of TX/FL deaths are AFTER we had PLENTY of vaccines that test of the world wasn’t privileged enough to have! I’m more willing to forgive NY/NJ admins, countries like Italy, UK, India for COVID deaths because they didn’t have a choice but TX/FL?… No way!
So you agree lockdowns and mask mandates don’t work. NYC was full tyranny and Florida was full liberty. Yet NYC came out entirely worse. Florida also has a much older population.
Nah. I’m going to stick around. You can keep your gators and hurricanes. I like visiting. Not gonna live there.
Never!! What a trash state
Because a law against helping people kill their babies == Taliban rule
there are currently more than 400,000 children in foster care in the United States. Have you thought about that?
The law is only supported by a religious sect. The law contradicts the existing understanding of the country’s constitution. It’s a step towards theocracy and vigilantism — no wonder people compare it to the Taliban
Florida still seems great to me. If people there don’t get vaxed or take covid precautions it doesn’t force me to follow them. Not like they are restricting vaccinations. I’ll always get the vaxes and ensure my family does too. What other people do is up to them, they know the risks.. doesn’t really hurt me (assuming covid vax impact remains at current levels)
Isn’t COVID literally all about the community? Remember that the virus is multiplying itself in unvaxxed bodies and attacking the vaxxed folks!! Even if you don’t have kids <12 that can’t get vaxxed, what’s the guarantee that current vaccines will protect you against future, deadlier waves of Corona virus 🦠?
All available evidence shows kids are not getting sick and dying of covid at alarming rates. It is less deadly to their age range than the seasonal flu. You keep fear mongering on baseless claims.
Denver does look like a great option to move
I think they should have a exception baked into the law like victims of rapes or assaults. Outright making no exceptions and illegal to receive such service is just plain bad. Having a child is a lifelong commitment. If you can't take care of yourself how can you take care of another human being. It's just plain wrong. I have a lot of motivation to move from bay area to Texas earlier in the pandemics, but now this is not as viable a choice for me
Creating an exception for rape specifically creates new problems. Now you create an incentive to falsely accuse someone of rape to be able to get an abortion. Needs to be all or nothing.
These are arguments for aborting people after they've been born. At a certain point this is a human life and I don't think we want to legalize murder. Where's the boundary, 5 years? 10 years? 3 years? Obviously 20 minutes prior to being born is a baby.
The tax savings are just not worth the hassle of being in a place so stupid as Texas or Florida.
Elegantly said. As someone who wants to leave FL, I’m not salivating on moving to CA. I just want to live some place where there aren’t crazies controlling government. I’m seriously considering Denver and Raleigh. There has to be a middle ground between CA and TX/FL.
I don't know if you have kids but New Jersey or Connecticut might be up your alley as they have great public schools. They don't have the weather though.
You're including Austin in your assessment of texas? I'm guessing you've never been there.
Austin is open cary and pro-birth like the rest of Texas. Cute cafes won’t help you now
AFAIK, Texas laws apply to Austin!! Here are some great ones in addition to anti-abortion law they just passed 👇 1) no public or private entity can implement a mask mandate 2) no entity can mandate vaccinations
