So I've been trying to gtfo of government accounting for higher pay. I don't have my CPA or Big 4 exp but places like Snap that don't have it listed as required, only preferred, and only ask for 1 YOE are rejecting me. I have 1 YOE in AR and 2 in AP. The description is the same shit I do now. I know SA is not the same, yadda yadda, but it's not like a massive jump. I already have to work with JE and the GL, I cost account stuff, reconcile, use Excel and SAP, create pivot tables, use vlookups, run reports, I work with vendors to make sure they're not double billing or to correct their math etc etc. What gives? Are they lying any CPA or YOE not being required? TC 64K #finance #accounting #staffaccountant
You will not get into any Tech company coming straight from government. You will need to take a job back in the private sector, reestablish your brand for a couple years and then try again.
It's not required, but they get so many applicants that DO have those credentials, so their incentive to take someone without them are slim. I'm similar to you, no CPA, but currently staff at large public company with 5 YoE. Got a couple interviews at tech companies but nothing came from them
And here I thought accounting was a good field
It can be, but that depends on what you do and who you work for. Terrible WLB outside of government but most people who try to get into govt already have the high paying jobs and bargaining power. For me to do that, I gotta go the opposite direction first.
