I know this will be unpopular on Blind, but recent studies show that both Republicans and Democrats don’t trust Biden to handle immigration and the economy. Yeah, Republicans are engaging in a culture war to prevent him from getting any wins, but he’s also just a useless wet rag in general. The immigration bill that was rejected last night gave Republicans everything they would’ve wanted a year ago, showing how weak Biden’s admin is on this. We need to force companies to go through hoops to validate that their employees are American. This will hurt in the short term but in the end it would increase our wages and job security in tech, and lift up wages across all industries. Republicans claim they want this but they profit off of cheap labor. Dems don’t want this but it’s necessary. Americans need to start coming first.
What exactly is Americans first in skilled employment? Have you looked at the data for off shoring and near shoring? Making it harder to employ here will move jobs to other countries. Avg tech immigrant contributes more to economy, as long as government is getting taxes they don't care if it's coming from an American or to be American.
We should address those loopholes as well. We’re already doing it with Huawei products, although that’s an extreme example.
If you are really trying to have a discussion suggest how you will address them. You want to change America and the world order with it lol
This is kind of a dumb take. I don't like or support illegal immigration, but I'm aware enough to understand the only reason it exists is because of the utterly immense amounts of hoops the US makes people jump through just for the privilege of working here, even temporarily. It's eight years and 1540 dollars in paperwork just to get a foot in the door in this country. That's dumb. Every industry is starving for workers, and as soon as we boomers start retiring en mass, it will be even worse. Make work permits a one-day process that costs 30 bucks, like a driver's license - boom, no illegal immigration. Furthermore, any hoop that you add for companies to jump through means said companies have to processes and personnel to support the jump through the hoop. This adds cost and more useless paper pushers to an already paper-happy economy that only knows how to export paper-pushers.
Every industry is not starving. It is absolutely possible to swamp the labor market / housing market. Just look at Canada
America first education is needed, so you learn the difference between a study and a poll.
In my defense I just typed it out without much thought but you’re right, it was a poll.
America first education is needed so kids can point out where USA is on a map correctly, understand that Africa is a continent and not a country and math is not evil or scary
I'd be happy if they just crack down on the corruption in the existing process.
Agreed.
You’re taking a very real issue and scapegoating those solving it (immigrants). The real issue is our country has continually divested from public education and we have some of, if not the most, expensive higher education in the world. Less than 40% of citizens have a 4 year college degree, likely because they started off with poorer conditions and/or going to college was too high of a cost. The true solution is investment in our citizens, not punishment of others.
I agree. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a company hire a foreign candidate when there were 100 other similarly qualified American applicants. I support immigration for roles where it is truly needed. But we sure as hell don’t need immigrants in PM, finance, marketing and similar roles.
It’s already illegal to hire someone not authorized to work. You can get up to 6 months in jail for a violation
