And are you happy with what you achieved. Or at least most of the things you dreamed of when you were a kid or young adult? TC 242K
Curious what each persons dreams are.
For me it always was having a loving family with kids. When I was a kid I loved role-playing as a married couple. My Life is not perfect but I wouldn't want it any other way. Having a beautiful house and a decent NW are bonus and savings give us peace of mind in case something goes south with our jobs. Apart from that $$$$ were never a target for me.
Getting there
I have most elements of the personal life I want in place, but career is a pain that gets in the way I haven't solved yet.
Achieved and expanded :)
Living the dream - amazing wife, 3 great kids, fulfilling career, nice social group, 2 SFHs in a prime HCOL CA city (with a paid off rental) w/~$500K owed at 2.875%, 5-10 moonshot bets in the market (startup equity/angel investing), able to spend lavishly on travel/eating out/investments. Got lucky with RE as an “old” millennial.
Achieved my childhood dream of working at MSFT. Achieved my high school dream of working at Google. Haven’t achieved my college dream of working at Facebook (now Meta). Haven’t achieved my adulthood dream of creating something of my own and being employed by my own business. Overall happy.
You see my company name? It ain't Albertsons. So no.
Achieved my dream of being a physicist, but transitioning to an engineer career because of low pay and stress in academia.
Ouch. This is why I did not pursue my dream of becoming a physicist and abandoned academia again when I foolishly drifted back :(
I had 2 dreams since forever. Get a SWE job, preferably at Google and find a gf/wife. I got Google, but I haven't even been on a date yet lol.
The dreams keep getting bigger but the progress has been good so far. Mood has steadily improved since high school through college and 2 jobs
