Google, Facebook (meta), Faire

YOE: 7 (5 in control system industry, 2+ in Amazon) Current TC: 180-190 Current SDE2 in Canada with promotion at least 2 years away. All offers are in Canadian as well. Google: L4 (same level), may have to return to office later which means long commute. TC: 230-250 Meta: E5, full remote TC: 290-320 Faire: Senior level, remote or hybrid TC: 330 (half is private options so not likely liquid until IPO) There are other offers but they aren't comparable to these three. It comes down to Google for the "Google" reputation and large-scaled tech; Meta also for large-scaled tech in addition to higher level and pay; Faire for senior title and pre-IPO growth potential. Any thoughts?

Congrats! did you apply google for senior role or same level?

Amazon hm-dnr OP Nov 13, 2021

It was the recruiters reaching out for all three companies. I simply let them decide which level to match me. Google recruiter did tell me he can schedule another round of interview if I want to try L5. Not too sure about my chance though.

Google 🦑dive deep Nov 13, 2021

You should at least try for Google L5 otherwise there’s no reason to even consider Google L4 over FB E5

Google eVNp78 Nov 13, 2021

E5 at Meta compares to Senior at G. Not sure why getting the Senior title at Faire is better than E5 at Meta

Take Faire if you want good career growth . Company will IPO in future , so there is a lot of monetary value

Faire NoFare Jan 3, 2023

Lol 2023 and still no ipo and 1/3 the valuation

Faire has huge upside but my friend who works there say he doesn’t recommend it for engineering

Faire WLEO51 Nov 17, 2021

Curious to hear why. I have a lot of respect for our engineering teams.

IBM rLeI77 Nov 14, 2021

OP what’s your prep strategy? Any tips to share?

Amazon hm-dnr OP Nov 14, 2021

Just LC for medium and hard questions. Read through Grokking and watched some YouTube videos for system design. I was contacted by recruiters so I didn't have huge amount of time allocated for preparation in the first place.

IBM rLeI77 Nov 14, 2021

How many questions did you do in total? And also we’re you lucky in the sense that the questions asked were the same as the ones you did during practice?

Hey OP would you be open to a few questions? I have dmed you. Questions are regarding your experiences.

Amazon hm-dnr OP Nov 14, 2021

lol, took me a bit before realizing DM isn't supported on website view. Answered.

OP, congratulations on the offer. Off topic question, how’s the tech scene in Canada ? I’m waiting for my PR to come through after being fed up with US immigration.

IBM rLeI77 Nov 15, 2021

Tech scene is decent. Treat Canada at pit stop. Get PR, fulfil residency requirement and citizenship and then boomerange

IBM rLeI77 Nov 15, 2021

Ideally if you get PR after coming to Canada you need to spend 3 years in next 5 years

Faire WLEO51 Nov 15, 2021

Data Science at Faire is very impactful. You will have an opportunity to define your own roadmap and produce a lot of impact. If you value a role with a lot of autonomy and agency that moves the needle - I would recommend it. It does come with an expectation that you are able to self manage and get things done.

Side note. I currently work in the Bay Area but I’m from Canada and want to come back. But it’s so disappointing to see how low the E5 Meta salary is in Canada. Hopefully in a couple years it catches up to the states

IBM rLeI77 Nov 16, 2021

Lmao it wont. Canada as a system is irreversibly broken. Canada as a country is great. But you can’t live on “great country” you need actual substance

Zurich gvswf Nov 18, 2021

I have seen e5 offers go as high as 360K
