I accepted a role at RBC. But that is not my preferred role. I don’t know why they hired me. The reason I had to accept this role was because I needed something due to Amazon layoffs. I don’t have enough knowledge of that role, nor it’s my preferred choice nor I see building my future in this role. The positive side is that it’s a director level role and has good perks/salary. My joining is in first week of January. There was another role I was interviewing at RBC but that is for senior manager role. I still have my final interview in January (50:50 chance of getting selected as I’m competing with one another candidate). This is my dream role, I have knowledge and I will have lot of learning and I can see myself building future in this domain. The negative side of course is that I’m still in the race. So my question is if I accept the director role and start with rbc in first week of January, and if I get selected for the senior manager role, can I still pick that? This will technically show as demotion in system, but is it allowed at RBC? Please advise. 🙏
Usually when you accept a offer they won’t proceed with others. Either they ask you to withdraw your other applications or they do it. In my case RBC asked to withdraw after I accepted the offer so they can issue an offer letter. Talk to your recruiter they can clarify
My situation is different as I mentioned in the post. My other role final interview is still in the process and it will happen in January. But the director level role’s joining date itself is in January. My question is different. My question is if it’s allowed to move teams within the first week and also, is it allowed to take a demotion? (I’m fine with that but my query is more around if demotions are allowed this way?)
It’ll be difficult to move to the desired role after you have joined. Can you hold off the first offer until Jan end?
Don’t play with your Red Blood Cells like that
What is RBC?
Royal bank of Canada
Red Blood Cells
Haven't heard of people demoting themselves but people change teams all the time within the company
Accept the director role, use that to learn a new skill and in 18 months switch to another director role that suits your needs. Getting promoted is not easy with the politics so stick with the more senior role.
Take the director role and transfer to your dream job as senior director. If you become sr manager then there will be associate director and them director. Give or take 5-10 years path sometimes.

Anyone remember when we shut down the world and beat 80yr olds on the streets for not wearing masks?
Thanks for your response. I’m not sure I understood your point
