hudson river trading interview process

I have an interview at HRT coming up for a C++ engineer role. Anyone know what to expect in the on-site loop? There's surprisingly little information on this online. TIA.

Lots and lots of LC.

How many rounds are there usually and how many questions per round?

F.

If you do poorly you will be sent home early without all stages, but a large coding task where you take a spec and implement it, questions on OS/"how computers work", and system design questions are the main things usually covered.

Thanks. What does the system design component focus on? I imagine it’s not the quite the same as system design at big tech companies that tend to index more on distributed system design.

There are a lot of different potential questions, some more or less distributed, but it's about you being able to take a spec and produce a design and incorporate new facts into that design.

Few years ago when I interviewed i got: - 2h in front of a computer to solve 4 questions. First one was a warm up to see if you can do some parsing and be careful about edge condition. Second one was a simple DS to implement but I think they were looking for real world efficiency not just the right complexity. Last two were a simple algorithm question, last ones be presented as a bonus question on top of the third question but I suspect it was actually needed. I was done in about 1h and used 30 more minutes to clean up the code. The other interview were less focused on coding but more on finding the right approach. One question was about optimization of a backtracking problem, one was more a math question. I took a different approach as they wanted, somehow messed up and got it wrong (but the idea was correct), finally he gave me a small hint toward the approach he wanted and I got it. Finally last question was about memory management. Everyone I met was nice, it was a pleasant experience!

did you get an offer?

NVIDIA balibalo May 4, 2023

Yes, but after 6months of negotiation, they could barely beat my TC at Nvidia so I could not justify the move. I'm glad I didn't take the offer given my TC at Nvidia doubled within 2y due to the stock run.
