Hello folks, I've been working at a silicon valley company that got screwed over by Ivanti. Started off as a Technical Support Engineer as a new grad and didn't have the know how to negotiate a good salary. 2.5 years later my base pay is still below 100k in the bay area. As far as Support roles are concerned, what I like about it is the customer facing aspect, but it doesn't pay enough. I've realized my strengths lie in customer facing roles so I don't wish to transition to one that's internal. (I know PM is internal, but at least you talk to people) At this time I have a fair grasp over Linux OS, network troubleshooting, basic SQL and postgreSQL knowledge, browser application debugging, and iOS, Android troubleshooting. I wanted your opinions on which career path is more lucrative according to you, both financially and for work life balance. If you have advice on what skills I should be working on, that would really help too. Thanks!

Consider Professional Services, ask for like 130 or 140 and walk if u donβt get it. Maybe also a SE role which will certainly pay more but does come with some risk, but if u come from support you are already dangerous and they donβt have to train u. U would know if u could demo MobileIron by calling an SE and asking to do a demo with one of them and get their feedback. Tell them u wanna job. Itβs who u know not what u know with them sometimes. ;) old fashion elbow grease and Innovation at its best. Ask the sales leadership if u can apply for the job u want from the website. Easy.
