YoE: 12 (In Startups/ Government/ Market Launching) Location: Singapore/ SEA Role: Non Tech, in Sales/ BD role. Edited to include current TC: ~120k-130k (due to some Government PB structure) Hi all, I will be having an interview with the HRBP in coming weeks for a role in the BD Singapore Office. Just want to check on the following: 1. Does it meant most probably I will be getting an offer because prior to the HRBP interview, the Recruiter has asked for my compensation package and what will I be expecting in this round? 2. Negotiating an offer. My last job was in the Public Service and definitely the compensation package will differ from what startup normally offer. Does anyone know if the HRBP will nego on the offer in the HRBP round and how do you go about it? Will the offer from Bytedance be a hard offer (no room for nego) or otherwise 3. Is 996 really a culture in BD Singapore? 4. I wasn't told about the level of the position of the role. How do I know and can I ask the HRBP (will it seen as rude af? Because culture might be different from Government Service.) #singapore #bytedance
Likely you'll go through some behaviour questions, and if all good, the committee will evaluate your level and based on the level to give offer if I understand correctly. HR round should be okay as long as there's no red flag. And you can ask questions at the end of the interview
1. Based on my experience, it's very normal for HRs to ask for current comp and comp expectations right at the beginning. To me, it is not an indicator of an offer or the absence thereof. 2. The fact that you don't know the level of the role you are applying for puts you in a very awkward situation. How did you provide figures on what you will be expecting in terms of compensation if you didn't even know the seniority of the role? 3. I personally do not know how non-tech salaries work, but your TC is pretty low for your YoE in terms of tech company standards. If you did share your TC, there is a probability you will be lowballed due to the fact that they benchmarked their offer on the numbers you provided. Maybe 20% - 25% raise? (Push for 30% - 35% if this happens or negotiate the sign up bonus) Personally I like to do one of two things: Either dodge the question with those cliché answers (STRONGLY RECOMMENDED) or inflate those numbers a bit if you're a softie who can't say no (Max the bonus and, if you're expecting a raise just throw that in as well, don't bullshit too hard). This is assuming the company doesn't practice asking for pay slip proof which I doubt BD would do, just my assumptions. But you don't have to provide payslips if you never even gave the number in the first place... 4. You should ask the level of the role. What's so rude about asking what your job is? 5. I do not work in BD but I've read different Blind posts about BD since a few recruiters reached out to me and I gathered 2 things: There's likely no 996 and better know how to speak Mandarin or you're in for some torture. Hope this helps
Got it, the recruiter insisted for the payslip and for me to come out with a number before the interview as they do not want to waste time if there is a mismatch but I told them the same thing - different industry and Government cannot max out certain pay range. The job role level is because at some point, the hiring manager suddenly shared about some of the regional plans and asked about my thoughts. Thus I'm sure of the local role stage/ level but not sure if this is suddenly converted to a regional role how do I even start with the level and etc.
You don't need to overthink and overanalyze the HM words. Have you found any info on the salary range for your role? If so, I hope you benchmarked your comp expectations somewhere there. If did not find any, I hope you asked for a 25% - 30% raise or asked a few contacts on the rough salary range. Next time: Never share current comp and pay slips, you're shooting yourself in the foot. There are several ways to dodge it smoothly, Google it. Also, do not share exact numbers when it comes to comp expectations. You can say "Anything above 150 - 160k should work, but I should have a better estimate once I learn more about the role as I go through the interview stages and I'm always open to negotiation" kinda thing
One suggestion I can give, never give them your number. They insisted on asking for my numbers and expectations and even ask me to provide them payslips but I didn’t. Once you give them your numbers ur essentially showing them ur hands and now they know what’s your baseline and that’s how they can lowball you
I literally send them 1x payslip but told them, this is what I get and it will not be the base as the industry is quite different tho. I did not send them the bonus letter and etc and told them, scope out to work and etc.
You can not provide payslips? They insisted and I gave them mine.
TC
Apologies, new to Blind here. You meant in the HRBP round, they will discuss about the TC and etc? Will they benchmark to your last drawn because mine was at a Government sector for the last role and it doesn't make sense for them to follow the last drawn tho.
No, I meant that typically, before you ask help from Blind, it is customary that you share your current YoE (which you already did) and your current TC (which you haven't)
