Applied for an L6 role, got an offer for L5
I'm an IC4 at Oracle (OCI), is L5 a downgrade? Or a lateral move? Is it worth it to move to Amazon for only 10% increase in base salary? To me, it is a bit of a jerk move to offer someone a low-level offer when they have all the qualifications required for the higher level position. My org has an entire team of L6s that manage a service that's essentially an s3 bucket. Too many useless low bar L6 at Amazon today.

Don’t go for an L5 position if you believe you should be an L6. IC5 at OCI is a higher level vs L6 AMZN. I would suppose IC4 is slightly above L5. What’s your YOE? If it’s 6+, you should be an L6. Just keep applying. Most L6 at Amazon perform roles similar to L5. So, go for what you deserve

IC4 to L6 only if you do well in the interview. OP just has 1 yoe at IC4 and I guess didn’t do well in design round either.
6 years ago, i went from L5 amazon to IC3 oracle. Don’t do ic4 to L5. Bad career move.
that's what they are doing now, they want to throw you in the cage with the other hyenas fighting for the L6 promo and pay you L5 salary. I don't know how bad is Oracle, but i wouldn't take it. And yeah is a lateral move.
Thanks, that's my concern. The guy from HR mentioned that L5s take 2-4 years in average to be promoted to L6. I've been an IC4 for a year now, and it seems like taking this position would likely push back any growth opportunities for at least 2 or 3 years
that's not true, 2 to 4 years if you are lucky enough to have a manager that is good, wants to help you and the same for your skip, and you are in a team with big projects and scope, and you are willing to put the work, which everyone is
