Through a recruiting firm, I had two interviews with Pepsi Global for a data scientist role, and was offered $85 / hour, or $177k per year. The role has the possibility to convert to F/t after 6 months where I can renegotiate salary and receive equity. Those future details are opaque at this time. What I do know is that I will work on PepsiCo’s e-commerce analytics. I have about 6 YOE as a DS, working in startups and currently a large data science consultancy that services other companies and governments as clients. Is this a good offer? Where can this lead in one year? Good springboard to FAANG in one year? Curious how you’d leverage this. Also, I recently left my job and currently this is my first offer after 2 weeks of interviewing. I have other interviews so I’m not pressed to take it for financial reasons just yet. TC (last job): $143k #Datascience #datascientist #pepsico
What kind of data science can they actually do? Will you just be working with panel/IRI data? Sounds not interesting if that’s the case…
My understanding is that the DS department is relatively new within the company so there is a lot of infrastructure to build and a huge opportunity to influence the DS culture and how the business integrates it into decision making and strategy. In terms of what I’ll be doing, I think a sizable part will begin with A/B testing, and performing experiments to quantify the added value of marketing channels and promotions with an emphasis on the e commerce business.
