Does the company pay about $150 / hour when I get $97?

Does the company pay about $150 / hour to the agency when I get $97 / hour W2 on a contract? This is so that, if I get an offer from a FAANG or unicorn company, and they try to lowball me by giving me $250k TC by saying my previous TC was like $200k, I can tell them, a previous coworker founded her company and was offering $150 / hour corp2corp (1099) to me, so it is like $300k TC (and I can write off many things for taxes). In that case, they may be able to match it closer to $300k TC. Or maybe the best way is to get another offer, so that if the other company is giving me $300k, then they will pay $300 or $305 or $310 to "steal me". As some people say, "They will only pay that amount if they HAVE TO." TC: 190k #tc #negotiation #interview #salary

New employer need not know your current salary. They have to provide what's the best possible rate at which they can hire. If possible negotiate. And in some places like Cali, it is illegal to even ask you abt current pay.

I had a recruiter in California that said, "you were a contractor, so what did you get? $85?"

Any HR/Recruiter absolutely knows that $150/hr C2C is no where near equivalent to 300k total comp W2 and will not equate them.

really, what would they equate it to? So I guess the best way is to have a competing offer (or my ex-coworker faked it), or, I forgot to say, if I say, I have two more interviews lined up 3 days later and next week, so I can give you an answer in 2 weeks, but if you give me $300k, I will say YES right away and forget about the rest.

Maybe 200-220k. C2C is arguably more stressful than 1099 since you need to maintain your corporation and pay taxes as both an employee and employer. Overall you receive a higher rate because you have no PTO, no benefits at all and no unemployment benefits.

According to a new report, Mark Zuckerberg makes 1.6M in revenue per employee. That’s not the number I can bring as a counteroffer. In the same way, the your company is making a profit off of your work, investing time to market you and find clients for you. Your billing rate isn’t your salary, nor would it be recognized as such. Either way, your biggest leverage is the ability to say no to what they offer. The best form of negotiation is being able to dictate your terms and for them to believe you’ll leave that table if they don’t give it to you. That’s basically what a counter offer is: it dictates your floor, and demonstrates a place you will go to if your terms aren’t met. You can still dictate your floor, but your ability to walk away is more believable with another offer in hand.

I know... and if I say my contract has just ended, and I have no competing offer, now they are thinking "you have to accept it or else you soon will have no money to pay your bill". So can I act like my ex-coworker and make up a competitive offer? At least I can bring up the $150 / hour C2C or 1099.
