Evaluating a google offer that on the surface is pretty apples to apples. Unknowns are rsu refreshers and benefits. Msft and google benefits seem similar but msft has a few better ones - specifically $800 stay fit and $25 volunteer match. I did not see google has anything like that? I would turn down free food for those. What are the great differentiated benefits for google?
Google pays $10 to an organization for every hour you volunteer there. Max 250 hours. Offices without a large gym also get gym reimbursement. LA gets $45/month. Some offices get more. I think all the bay area offices have gyms, so you probably won't see any reimbursement there.
Really? You nickel and dime the benefits? Itβs G and their TC is way more. Free food. Who cares about gym membership. You will make lots more money to cover the cheap-o msft package. Get your priorities straight and just sign that offer letter when you get it.
I agree, but as I said. The package seems comparable to what I am making now. I am kind of on easy street in current role and trying to figure out which way to go. I would be remote so free food is not a benefit I would always use or value.
How are the following things at MS? I know for Google: Refreshers: If you are an average performer, expect about 1/4 of initial grant every year. Bonus: 15%+ depending on level and performance. 401k: 50% match (up to IRS limit) and allows after tax contributions (up to the total limit) HSA: Up to 2.7k seed money per year depending on the plan Charity match: Up to 6k per year
This is a question about a certain benefit. Not a Google vs Microsoft debate. We know Google has better pay and other better benefits. Stop being a dumb trying to turn everything into a debate
The question asks what are the great differentiated benefits for Google compared to MS, so I was curious about how refreshers etc are like at MS.
You're basing your workplace decision based on a side benefit that you can easily afford rather than the workplace itself?
Nope. Not at all. Free food, charitable match, stayfit, none of those alone would sway me one way or the other, but add them all up and maybe it becomes a factor. Doing analysis and making sure I have all the facts. Also just curious as google is always so highly ranked as best company to work for, and Microsoft is usually so low - but on the surface I am not seeing differentiation in terms of benes
That's because work culture and people aren't included in your formula. big companies gives roughly the same benefits because it's a market standard and needed to attract talent, the workplace environment, cultural and people in google is what makes it a top ranking company.
Microsoft TC is Google-tier at the entry level then IBM-tier as you move up. Unless you just wanna spend a couple of years at MS, Google, no contest.
What amazing thing did u do get that ssa?
I donβt have to do anything amazing and I get t-fiddy after leaving msft.
you can find a list of google benefits @ perks.guide

How to save India from destruction?
So Google has no gym membership?
It's got gyms in offices. If you are working at an office without a gym they'll reimburse a membership
The office gyms are garbage if you are into weight lifting. My apartment has a better gym and I still pay for a fully featured one
