What’s up with Indians and the word “Kindly”?
I’m in a non tech role and my work history has been a mix of meets expectations with also poor performance where I left the company before I got fired. I’m on the strategy/ops side of business. I’m just feeling very defeated. Never got a promotion, have depression and have taken time off for that in the past. People who have worked in other industries - is it easier? I’m considering switching. I feel like I’m not smart enough or hard working enough for tech. Salaried for roles I’m qualified in other fields are like 60-70% of what I make now but if it’s less stress and performance is perceived to be better it looks like a good switch? I’m considering large, well established non tech companies like General Mills or Nestle, or even a role in local government. Thanks for the input Tc 117 YOE 6
I’d say try to find a great manager, great team, work that you know and are comfortable with and like, and try that out for a year. Bad experiences can ruin your perception of what you’re capable of. What’s your YOE? If it’s less than 10 then try it once or twice - especially in the right environment (which is really hard to find but possible). I personally know what youre feeling but I think I just haven’t found the right place to show that I’m good (I do generally like my work) and don’t blame myself for not succeeding so far.
Fwiw once I fixed my mental health and sleep my performance got way better. Consider finding a good therapist who can help you figure out what's going on (like if the career is a bad fit, or if it's other stuff that's holding you back).
I do feel like career is bad fit. So many priorities and I have only stakeholders, no support or much of a team for myself. But idk what else to do.
How many companies have you been at? Maybe try another one or two of different sizes or whatever and see if you can find the right fit.
Tech is like the most chill industry, especially among top paying careers
You mean tech works the least hours and/or least output is needed?
