I see so many folks on LinkedIn mention ex-Meta, ex-Google, ex-Apple etc. Are these folks that insecure that they need to be remembered by everyone on their network by the previous place they worked at or are they signaling to everyone that they are of a "supposed higher caliber" than the folks at the place they are currently at? Either way, it reeks of desperation and the need for external validation. Sometimes the mf'er is not even an SWE and is working in a non-tech crud role like sales, marketing, ops and they still mention ex-Meta. Bizarre. Wouldn't a bigger flex be ex-Nvidia, ex-Netflix or ex-OpenAI or ex-JaneStreet or ex-Citadel, ex-Blackstone, ex-KKR? I feel that the guys that are truly secure in their position and work don't flex with an ex, while those that are on the margin go to great lengths to showcase their standing. Primarily sense this among folks from some countries which I shall not name as I want to to be nice with the online Blind police who will report me otherwise. Peace Are folks attention seeking prima Donna's that they need to signal ex-Apple from a stint 3 years ago? Really? PS: I am ex-Albertson. Zero pride in being associated with them. Maybe this is the only way to use ex in your linkedin handle.
If I dated BeyoncĆ© ā¦ What comes before ex-Google or sex-BeyoncĆ©?
MBA, CFA, Harvard, Stanford, Ex Google, Ex 3x Divorcee - I am more successful than you period huzzah tagline helping companies help themselves in the circular jerk economy
You hit the royal flush when it comes to prestige. Name drop all day and night to all and sundry. Your opinions must be highly sought after.
Ex-mcdonalds Not to be confused with ex-mckinsey
ššš have seen a few ex-Mckinsey profiles too. Not sure why someone would want to be associated with that brand anyway
Lmao at the way you tried to slip KKR into that list. Nice try.
Lol..maybe Apollo, Carlyle..take your pick.
Why not ? People studied and worked super hard in order to get into these companies. Itās achievement. they and their family, friends proud of them. Also, itās good to catch recruiterās attention. Fucking mind ur own business, let people do what make them happy. Blind is so toxic just as Amazon.

I think it can make sense if you're a high level employee (principal eng or smth). For a random SDEII it's kinda lame. Honestly, though, I'd do it too if I thought it mattered, but I don't think it does.
^^^ this..100% agree
To be fair, thereās probably 6 or 7 trillion dollar companies in the entire world. It is worth noting in that sense. LinkedIn IS a place to build your online image for your āprofessional networkā whatever that means
Exactly. LinkedIn as a whole is kinda cringe.
Do you use LinkedIn as an actual social media site? For me it's 100% a tool to get contacted by recruiters, and maybe ask ex colleagues for referrals. Why wouldn't I put it there, if it's clearly something that makes you more attractive to recruiters of companies I may be interested in?
Itās a social media site and it wonāt be a just tool if you donāt use it. Not that I use ex tags, but just saying
Gives a certain level of validity, even though it's usually warranted. Can't tell you how many people perk up or treat you differently when you mention you work at Google. Pretty stupid imo but I'll use it while I can Would never put in my LinkedIn name tho š
Looks like blind has forced the tag on us
"Treat you differently" - tell me more. Or is it just recruiters who dont know squat that get a hard on when they see ex-google?
