I’ve heard a lot of negative things about the defense industry including NGC. I think most of those are true given my low pay for an entry level SWE position. How hard would it be to leave this company and are there any benefits to this company? #northropgrumman #tech
It’s at-will employment right? Should be as easy as not showing up to work one day
Haha true. I guess I should’ve been more specific. How hard would it be to leave to a decent company like VMWare or Intel?
My wife was canned from NG for taking too many bathroom breaks during the latter stage of her pregnancy. Just save yourself the trouble and don’t join them to begin with
You can leave anytime like a normal job, but if I remember correctly they had some weird 401k matching vest schedule. They have a one year claw back on signing bonuses too.
Defense industry is actually pretty great, but obviously pay is below big tech. My new college grad offer from a defense contractor last year was 85K. Government makes engineers report hours on the contract so you'll never work unpaid overtime, and it's usually pretty chill, definitely no on-call. Just doesn't pay as much as big tech, but very few software industries do. As for leaving I assume your asking if it will look good on a resume and it will probably look pretty average on a resume. Obviously you can leave any job for whatever reason whenever you want in America so that shouldn't be a concern
Sorry I should’ve specified. How hard would it be to leave to big tech company?
The only hard part about working there would be sleeping at night
Would u say there are any advantages. Like security clearance?
I mean, yeah I guess, if you can get a secret clearance you’re basically set for life career wise. As long as you can live with the blood on your hands.
Not hard at all . Ex defense worker
That’s good to hear. Did you mostly leetcode to get Amazon or is there anything else you had to do?
Not hard at all. Have recruiters from tech companies (for SWE positions) reaching out to me everyday on LinkedIn including big tech

Just don't join. Go straight to tech
Sadly I don’t have an offer
@meta Some of us don't quite have a choice tbh.
