I am from China and the first thing they (the interviewers) ask me is if I can speak Chinese. Then they said let’s just speak Chinese for the interview. How is this fair? I can’t imagine how the office culture looks like if every Chinese engineer speaks Chinese with each other. I am curious how others think? If you are not Chinese and you work at TikTok, how do you survive this culture? And why did you sign yourself up for this?
They could have been lied to in the interview. Much of zoom is the same way but we didn't know until we started really working.
Then don’t sign up
I worked there out of college as 1-2 and it just felt like being a foreigner. Wasn't really a big deal at all. The 'culture' isn't that different from any tech company and is 90% influenced by your mgr. Maybe more experienced people have juicier stories.
Depends on org. At eng you simply cannot survive, and they are just being honest asking if you speak Chinese. Outside eng it is basically English by default.
Same as how non Indian survives Microsoft google Amazon
Yeah that didn’t happen
What didn’t happen? Us speaking Chinese in the interview?
Learn Chinese 😂
You don’t
You do. I hear TikTok training their own OpenAI chick clone. By cloning OpenAI outputs.
I don’t anymore. Go F yourself.
they learn chinese
Many such cases
