I put in about 3-3.5h of focused work everyday as SWE because I don't feel like I can go any further. I need a long break (2h) before I get any motivation back and regain my ability to focus. Although I could go back to work after 2-3h break, but why would I? WFH rocks! What about you?

Why is our country owned by Israel? I don't want my tax dollars fund genocide. How can we stop this nonsense?
Yeah they should just hire robots instead, because they work 24h. /s
12 hours. It is required in my org. Up or out.
are you still at cox? my buddy works there as a SWE and says everyone works like 2 hours a day since the pay is so average.
Glad I'm not the only one lol
do you manage to get everything done in 3h? wfh?
i’m able to, but it’s bc i work w a bunch of old people. so they thing that drawing up a simple workflow takes hours when i can do it in abt 30-40mins haha if i can get 7hrs of work done in 3hrs i don’t see the problem w only working 3hrs 🫡
4 hrs of deep focussed work every day. Rest of the day is split between documentation, meetings and all the other mundane stuff. I don’t think there are any software engineers that can do focussed work for more than 4-5 hrs a day. It is very mentally draining.
Same. I think there is a toxic idea that only time spent coding or in deep focus counts as “work” when really all of it should. Even breaks between tasks (assuming they aren’t unreasonably long) because that’s resting to be more productive on the next thing.
Since being entrusted as soft lead, I feel like probablly back-to-back meetings across different time zone is one more mental draining. Necessary bad ?!
When I’m in office, I work 2-3 hours per day. When I’m work from home usually 10-14.
How? Is it about distraction or just over work at home
This feels like some RTO propaganda… especially since akvelon isn’t remote?
Maybe 3hrs of real work
7-8 hours of real work everyday. I am usually drained by the time I close my laptop. RTO is making it worse, one step at a time.
working too much, lower expectations
Let’s be real. Even in the office, most of us are working the same amount of “deep focused” or uninterrupted time on actual technical work. This is because much of our time at work is spent on administrative stuff, checking off boxes, writing docs, updating people on the status of things, meetings, the list goes on. In addition to that, there are only so many hours a human can sustain focus on one task, and in order for humans to do their best, they must be uninterrupted during that time. I am hybrid and in fact, I have less focus time on the days in office than i do at home. There is some bias because office days are more meeting heavy, but even if it were evenly dispersed, the time i spend would end up being the same so long as I’m in a comfortable environment. This would likely be anywhere from 2-4 hours on deep focused work. Most humans cannot sustain complete attention on one task for longer than 30 minutes for various reasons. Throw in meetings and endless pings and emails and it’s a wonder anything gets done in the first place, whether you’re at home or at work. I think it’s about choosing an environment that is going to maximize the amount of time you can spend on deep focused work, assuming that you have a lot of it.
Except what you listed doesn’t magically disappear because you are wfh
Based on this poll looks like there is quite a bit of room for more layoffs - FAANG executives
Fuck em
99% of humans cannot do real focus work for more than 4 hours a day.
