It’s hard to pinpoint this person. On the surface they’re really friendly and seemingly agreeable, but then, they just solve a problem extremely fast and in a way no one thought of. They came from a different industry and then completely pivoted into SWE and since are now breaking ground with AI and have multiple patents. They literally had no idea how to code 3 years ago, but now just crush any problem and have all these innovations. They even let other people take credit for things. For example, one group had a problem they couldn’t solve, it was critical to the business, and literally in a weekend this person gave a fulling running solution. Everyone doubted the idea initially and wrote it off, but here we are a few months later and it is exactly what my coworker suggested. But my coworker gets no credit and gives 0 💩’s. Is this just a gifted and talented person, or is our team just smooth brain?
Liberal artists lol Not really. There are only drivers to do certain things. It’s like survival instincts.
They actually came from a diff engineering discipline (not CS or CE). What happens is they’re usually not as experienced or fluent in coding best practices. But they solve every single problem and have fully fleshed out solutions faster than anyone else.
Oh man. I had a guy who spits out solutions blazing fast. Sometimes it felt as if he was supernaturally talented. He pivoted into software engineering too and now lead anything and everything. Iam still confused as to how his brain works
Glad I’m not alone in noticing this. I consider myself a good dev, and people on my team are good devs. I wouldn’t consider this person a good dev, they just solve problems in the most creative and innovative ways, and in insane speed.
The speed is what I get astonished about, too. Many times, In 10 minutes time, I would have just started to look at the logs to debug a prod issue, and he would be already unit testing his pull request. I mean just how? Oh you would think it's part of the code he knew already. Hold on. He goes and helps other teams also where he has no idea about and gets shout outs. Because of all this, I was put into pip by my manager bcs we were the only two working on our domain. And he's the only reference my manager had. Whatever, happy to have worked with him and he is very kind too.
Some people just have high IQ and also a photographic memory, I've known a few like this. They would excel in almost any field.
Not necessarily gifted. They're more experience in self learning.
They probably have some inner driver - like being scared of being fired or receiving negative feedback. Or new to industry.
