4 ppl I know, mostly in their 30s, who retired recently. Were very average students. How did they retire? Made several millions on NVIDIA and BTC. Couple of them joined NVIDIA in 2010. One of them actually bought a summer home in Italy countryside. It's all luck. Some are lucky. And some will keep slaving away till they die.
Mostly luck. Plus some talent and making the right decisions at the right times.
Right decision at the right time is literally just luck
Wrong. Is it lucky to make an informed bet on an investment? Or to choose a career you think has better prospects? There is some uncertainty but that is different than saying "all luck". The point of learning and understanding the world is to increase your chances of making good bets.
Agreed. Even where you are born is luck. Imagine your life if you were born in some third world country vs the US or UK or whatever.
UK might as well be third world with how much tech pays
This is huge, and people barely talk about it. Those born in the third world have to go through the immigrant struggle to barely attain something people born in the US take for granted.
You pretty much stated the entire premise for the psychology of money by Morgan Housel
You can buy BTC too you know? Stop crying and do something.
At 70K a pop? You fuckin' nuts
Youāre focusing on the price of one coin. Shows your lack of understanding and maturity. Makes sense why those around you have gone further. Good luck OP.
Take more risks. Your dataset reeks of survivorship bias.
Someone told you that if you get good grades in school it will set you up for success in life and you believed it. Your mistake.
But you can play the cards well that were dealt to you
Once as a kid, 7 years or so, I was walking with my dad and there was a stunning woman walking across the street. I was staging at her. Dad asked if I like that woman. I said yes. He said - study well, and youāll get yourself one just like that one day. It was a joke but delivered with a poker face, dad jokes and all that. I did study well, got good grades and ended up alright, overall. Nothing wrong with the advice to get good grades. Developing the love of learning and competitiveness helps to rise up. Most of my college friends ended up alright, some VERY much so. Some flopped, but when comparing with my public middle school classmates, the distribution of success is much worse in the middle school classmates group.
You are a result of your company (social & professional). Your friends made some smart choices Youāre saying like - if one person eats ice creams & pizzas, and another eats a balanced food - and you come out saying people get lucky with health. Of course you could have done the things they did
Microsoft is doing very well too. In the current time frame NVDA performance may be an outlier but it will normalize. I agree with your overall point. A large part of life is luck
