Where do I invest? BYD is making reliable, electric cars fast. These cars are feature rich. They are making it at a cheaper price. There are markets like South America, Mexico, rest of the Asia where BYD might do well. Their profit margin is low. Consumers in Europe seem to be willing to pay a lot higher price for TSLA and European cars (arguably BYD cars are less buggy). Even in markets like Australia (where consumers are more willing to buy BYD), TSLA is dominating. TSLA's model2 might be a killer for BYD. At some point TSLA will learn how to make cars cheap. Countries like the USA and India are less likely to let BYD in. Koreans and Japanese are not interested in Chinese cars. It is so interesting that Japanese consumers would rather buy older expensive ICE cars (vintage cars) from the US than modern reliable BYD cars. Similarly Europeans believe their cars are good enough. The perception (where the car manufacturer is from) has a big impact. Volvo is always going to be the safest car (in our minds). Toyota/Honda will be the reliable car. BMW will be the ultimate driving machine. TSLA will be the EV, the modern car. Even when Elon Musk admits BYD makes really good cars, people will buy TSLA. Any thoughts?
If you understand the EV business then invest in both or spray based on probability of success across multiple EV, your goal should be win big on at least 1 to cover the losses from losers.
