I’m a college student currently on the internship/new grad (my graduation date is flexible) hunt. I have a couple Product Manager internships under my belt but the market has been brutal and APM internships are even more competitive than usual this recruitment season. Because of that, some friends and family recommended I consider tech sales.. Now I’ve been getting interviews for both APM programs (Salesforce, Walmart, Cap1 etc) but I’ve also been getting interviews from Companies for SDR internships (MongoDB, UiPath, Dell etc) My family is telling me to make a choice. It looks like I’ll be receiving a few offers soon (fingers crossed) and my family is putting the pressure on me to either pick the PM route or the Tech sales route. I’ve never been in tech sales so Idk if I’m passionate about it and honestly being a PM for a few internships has been cool but it’s a job to me. What should I do? Tc:0
You’re young. SDR is a great foot in the door and solid character / skill building. Lots of transferable skills. I started my career in tech sales and now I’m in program management making over 6x more.
Your family needs to chill out. Do what is right for you in this moment. You have so many years ahead of you.
PM, easily. Way more upside.
