lol written by Lauren Aratani from the guardian. We need a random lady named lauren to tell us that we are wrongly believing something. Tomorrow Tom can write an article: the U.S. is indeed in a recession regardless of what the fake data from fake Biden regime told you, and itās all Bidenās fault.
Can you provide links to the "correct" data then?
Vibecession
If Joe Biden can get me a job Ill vote for him. Otherwise Im voting for trump. If you say well he cant control my employment, then I cant control who I vote for
āOtherwise Iāll vote for trumpā š
Seems like you're in control when saying that you'll vote for Trump, you're not closing your eyes and choosing
Yeah, itās pretty bleak when the economy is doing as well as it is but the average person is still struggling. Wages are making some gains compared to inflation now but thereās a lot of ground to be made up until people are whole to where they were a few years ago. Your average person doesnāt care a lot about the S&P 500 on a day to day basis, they arenāt actually looking at how much from a percentage standpoint groceries went up over the last 30 days and whether inflation is starting to trend in the right direction, they couldnāt give you a textbook definition of what a ārecessionā is. Voters are going to ask - am I better off, and do I feel like I am better off, today than I was a year ago, 4 years ago, etc.
4 years ago, we were in lockdown because of the pandemic.
And how does how you feel about where you were four years ago align with how you intend to vote? And if I told you some stocks you may or may not own are up/down/sideways would it cause you to change your opinion? Iām not making a case for a specific candidate, Iām making a case for how most average people (not average Blinder) form their opinions. Itās not whether weāre technically in a recession or not, itās about āam I doing better or worseā.
When we had the text-book definition of recession, the White House made a blog post and changed the definition. If good economy means more homless, more crime, unaffordable housing, tech bust, AI doom...then I don't want any of it.
āHow can it be a recession when my third vacation home is now worth over a million?ā -boomers
"its not recession because my 401k went up 5% under Biden and I just sold my lakefront property for a profit"
If the average American was smart, there would be no need for immigrants. Lots of dumb people who think unemployment is high and stock market is down this year.
We are in a recession, but Americans are just starting to feel it. There are way less high paying and desirable jobs than during the peak of tech in 2021 and 2022. TC: 105K
Tech is not the only industry in the US economy.
Links to data?
The same poll also says that a huge portion of Americans believe that the stock market is down year to date and that the unemployment rate is at 50 years high. There have been other polls suggesting the same. Obviously, this data captures information about the "vibes" coming from the voters rather than anything else, and this has been the case since at least 1 year. Also, the reason why I think Trump is more likely than Biden to win the race and polling seem to point towards that.
He'll win until 3am again
That's the point of the article, the vibes don't match the data, this means the info people get is shit. And this is all on Fox and their friends.
It's going great for our billionaires
MSM logic: print money = higher GDP = people are doing better people aren't dumb, they see that rent is rising every year. Getting on the property ladder is damn near impossible. They see that cost of eating out is rising drastically. Commutes are getting longer and longer for most people because you have to live farther to afford the house. People see the layoffs affecting them or their friends, explicit or implicit layoffs Again, people aren't dumb, they can feel if life is getting better or worse no matter how much bullshit statistics you post
Dude. Bring data. What the hell is the level at Google nowadays ? This is the type of bullshit that Fox news spreads "well, all the statistics are looking awesome, but you all should feel down because that helps us so f*ck the data". Like that GOP idiot who was arguing that cities were not safe, and the interviewer was showing him actual data from FBI, law enforcement, etc and he dismissed it that "that's not what's my feeling".
Funny databricks doesn't have any data either.
Newsflash: majority of Americans wrongly believe a lot of things.
Im going to believe my friends and personal experience over gas lighting.
If there's one thing to be learned from this thread, most people don't know what "recession" means and don't really care to try.
