Anyone here who can share information! What do you all think? Is this a good move? Seems like this would mean jobs will again be cut from the industry. https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/chrysler/2019/10/30/fca-psa-groupe-merger/4100266002/
Yes what’s up?
I think it’s something that has to happen. Fiat has small cars for Europe, but their presence is only really in Italy. In North America, Jeep and Ram have a great presence. However, Jeep and Ram are the only true contenders in the portfolio for a global presence. However, everywhere outside of North America, the larger Jeeps, as well as the Rams, are not suitable for smaller European and Asian markets. With this possible merger, Peugeot gains a North American presence through the vast dealer network. In Europe, FCA gains the rest of Europe with PSA. As for potential layoffs, I think that is bound to happen if the automotive market continues to decline in sales. 1) do the same with less 2) do more with the same 3) ideally - do more with less
Citation for "fiat... Presence is only really in italy"??how did they get so much cash to buy Chrysler with only Italian market?
It was not meant as disrespect towards Fiat. If that is what you thought I was implying. Both companies were in a bad situation. The only reason Fiat purchased Chrysler was due to the emergence from bankruptcy through a government bailout and UAW support. Otherwise Fiat would not have been able to acquire Chrysler had those things not happened. Additionally, the comment of Fiat’s presence being dominant only in Italy is true. Fiat has very little competition there.
I’m just wondering if this got approved what will be the name of the new company. LOL. Why lay-off? I see this as mutual benefit since not much overlapping market. But maybe the lay-off depends what department/area.
