Will seattle housing price exceed the bay?

With all big tech expanding in Seattle, would it surpass the bay for housing prices? The Bay Area has a lot more land and much better road & public transit than seattle, therefore people can live far out so house supply is a lot more abundant than seattle. Seattle has limited land, and no public transit like cal train, and downtown parking is very restricted, therefore people have to live closer to downtown, limiting housing supply. With all the high TC tech people flooding into seattle, would the housing price 🚀🚀🚀?

Not a chance. Seattle housing can and will likely continue to appreciate but WA doesn't have a cap on propety taxes like CA does so will never get as crazy as there is no incentive. WA could also implement this but reducing taxes or adding income tax in wa seems very unlikely.

You referring to prop13 or something else?

Prop13 yep

You get 3 months of good weather in Seattle per year and you think it’ll surpass Bay Area prices? Never going to happen.

Uber itgksn Jul 6, 2021

Must be why property prices are so low in NYC, London, Moscow, Beijing. They all have amazing weather

Netflix He$DeadJim Jul 6, 2021

Seattle isn’t a global city. It’s a beta at best. Try harder with the dumb comparisons.

People have been saying this since 90s. Surely Seattle has great tech but Bay Area is also home to a lot of startups. A lot of people are in California also due to weather. My family surely won’t like to move to WA just because of all the 🌧 and gloomy weather. For example it was 70 degrees and sunny for most of January in the afternoons when I went out this year in the valley.

I hate Seattle, but I make 20% more TC in seattle than CA because no taxes and I pay less in rent, that’s why a lot of people will go to seattle. Also in 90s Bay Area houses were actually affordable

Facebook public2 Jul 6, 2021

But you would pay more in wa if you owned a house which is why it won't ever happen.

Seattle has no income tax so I'd assume prices can exceed ca by that percentage

Facebook public2 Jul 6, 2021

WA doesn't have income tax because it gets it's revenue from propety taxes...

Netflix He$DeadJim Jul 6, 2021

In one hand, out the other. And property taxes are reassessed to property value every few years. Unlike Cali which has prop 13.

Obviously nothing can beat the Bay Area - Seattle is up and coming but has 1/10th the industry of Bay Area

Qualcomm workngstif Jul 8, 2021

There is a lot more empty land around Seattle than in Palo Alto.

Facebook public2 Jul 8, 2021

That's not true. Half of palo alto is empty, it's just a very nice and huge park

Qualcomm workngstif Jul 10, 2021

But that land in Palo Alto is owned by stanford University or already has a house on it. YOu can't build on it.
