When Musk assembled the original OpenAI team their stated goal was to develop AI responsibly under the aegis of a non-profit. They clearly mentioned how Google was leaps and bounds ahead of every other company in terms of AI research and how one for-profit corporation getting hold of something as powerful as an AGI is catastrophic for humanity. Their raison d'être was to serve as an open alternative to a corporate behemoth Google. Now, a decade later, OpenAI has a for-profit subsidiary who is sprinting full speed towards AGI arms race using a technology that Google deliberately did not commercialize. The irony! All of this blatant about-face happened under the watch of the manipulative genius Sam. When the board at the non-profit parent felt powerless about all of this, they fired Sam as a last ditch hail-mary move.
Cool story 😉
Appreciate this perspective.
Just look at what this paragraph started with....Musk assembled. This is how it was always going to end. They just wanted to look like good guys. Money always wins......
Except Musk has repeatedly publicly complained that OpenAI wasn't staying true to its mission.
Musk is just bitter he is no longer on board. Is his AI roadmap and goals at TSLA for the better of humanity?
So what's the problem. ? I was born to a nun does this mean I should be a pagan for the remainder of my life ? Sam rightly said that musk is a jerk
If there's one person who has the authority to preach the world about ethics and safe use of technological advances, it is the guy who works for Amazon. The company that makes drivers pee in water bottles, pushes for unsafe practices at their warehouses and promotes toxicity among its white collar workers.
You forget that many companies are fast catching with ChatGPT.. who’s gonna stop them? OpenAI would perish being non-profit!
Musk assembled no shit. He ain't no Nick fury.
He recruited Ilya away from Google who is instrumental in holding OpenAI together this long. Musk even mentioned how that ruined his friendship with Larry Page.
For-profit companies have benefited humanity far more than nonprofits have. Competition and accountability are more powerful forces than altruism, thanks to human nature. This will also be true with AI. By putting lower-powered AIs in the hands of hundreds of millions, they’re going to get the data and testing they need to make higher-powered ones safe. There’s no danger in current AIs and no reason to keep them locked away from the public and in the hands of a privileged few. The dangerous ones are going to be government-funded and directed stuff from China, despite their non-capitalistic nature.
Musk was the jealous kid who felt left out when Open AI gained tractation. He didn't do shit. It was the potential of the person itself not who recruited who
Yep. Nothing against sam at all, but it felt like humanity lost to capitalism and greed just now.
Humanity is never been better in history than now, and a big part of that is thanks to Capitalism. Just look at the % of world poverty reduction and you will see, that the most recent example is China, when they started with the Capitalist practices they started improving the quality of living of the people.
I never said capitalism was bad 🤷♂️
