Okay so 1. Nonprofit turning into profit, not being “open” That part I understand because everyone likes money Then 2. All dramas and politics Whatever every company has politics 3. OpenAI CTO avoiding questions where the training data are from Very sketchy and begging for future lawsuits. Okay but innovation justifies crimes I guess 4. Then copying Scarlet Johansson despite her refusal and saying “we didnt do that but to respect her, we take down that voice” https://www.theverge.com/2024/5/22/24162429/scarlett-johansson-openai-legal-right-to-publicity-likeness-midler-lawyers I think they simply have no standard or ethics in place. Feeling uncomfortable that this is the company shaping the future of AI
I wish these points were more well thought through — they read like a 4th grader trying to put together a conspiracy theory
Lol, that’s why people hate h1b
I don’t have time for that. There are tons of facts like Ilya was being forced to sign the NDA not to reveal anything and violations will result in immediate revoke of vested stocks, the whole AI safety team getting axed. But this is Blind. You should do your own research
OpenAI is definitely getting painted similar to FB during Cambridge Analytica scandal
Angry because Google can't build a decent product anymore?
If anything, OpenAI’s actions are hastening government intervention. If they continue as they are, they’re likely to ruin the freedoms currently enjoyed for the entire industry.
Which... I mean maybe that's what's best in the end anyway? I hate to sound like an accelerationist but tech has pulled so much bs in the last 20 years. All the bs with self driving cars getting tested on public roads, Elon selling advanced cruise control as "autopilot", the massive invasion of privacy, underpaying drivers in rideshare and food delivery apps and all thr insurance shennanigans that went along with it, and especially the dinosaurs like experian with the hacks they got a slap on the wrist for
openai is being run by a bunch of GenZ-ers who haven’t the slightest idea of respect for energy, respect for Intellectual property, etc. they first scraped all the data and when caught with their pants down trying to evade questions or begging govt to bend rules for them. They were brought up in a sheltered environment that has not seen an economic shock. Their worldview doesn’t go beyond their immediate circle. They chase AI and automation like they solving an escape room. They don’t want to think about jobs being lost or automation replacing humans or AI being used to create malicious content because their worldview doesnt extend that far. This is what happens when a narcissistic generation shapes the future of the planet.
Which big tech company respects energy? Everyone is running massive data centers which are all bad for the environment. They are not the first company that scraped all data on the Internet, and they certainly won't be the last. Google is a pioneer in that area. If AI can do the job, then why do you need people to do it? Tech shifts happen all the time. People adapt and find other skills to put to use. So don't worry about job losses. Most likely the govt will step in and put regulations to impede the process.
I disagree. Govt. is it too meek and can’t do anything decisive anymore. There is so much dysfunction in US govt., they are incapable of agreeing on anything. They have pushed the onus on unelected people to take decisions on national issues - example Powell on deciding that more unemployment is needed in country. Or Supreme Court justices deciding what women can or can not do with their bodies. But I digress… What I want to say is govt is not capable of taking any action. It couldn’t do anything when fang companies were growing too big. Today they have so many lawyers, govt can’t do anything to break them. They are just getting more and more richer with literally no oversight. Same goes for extremely wealthy people. They have lawyered up and CPAed up and pay crap in taxes and govt has zero backbone in creating any rules. They literally don’t even have people on IRS to do large scale audits. Do you really think they will draft rules to stop AI companies?
Having a gay as founder is the shadiest of all
No wonder he looks good.
OpenAI is the next Facebook which doesn’t surprise me because we keep hiring from there. VP of Eng and VP of Product are both ex Facebook
Elon, are you?
