Been thinking about transferring and applying to other jobs. I work on the product side of things at Sephora. I've heard of a lot of people moving towards Walmart, but I wanted to ask which companies have decent/solid pay (and maybe not so bad in term of cost of living). Sephora pays pretty low compared to the Cost of living in San Francisco, so looking somewhere I can save more money and get a bit more pay. Any advice?
Waifair
Digital product or actual product we sell? It really depends on what you do and what your position is. I heard designers move to tech company, Walmart is hiring buyers from Sephora, if you are a product designer you will probably have a chance with tech companies as well.
Target compensation is not crazy better than Sephora (probably) but living cost is definitely more affordable. At the end of the day, it's monthly salary-rent-food-commute cost. If you move to a place that has lower living cost, you automatically get raise. Also, you can actually afford a house at Minneapolis.
I second Wayfair in Boston
I’d heard bad things, have they improved a lot?
Just curious, what have you heard? For me it's a mixed bag.
It’s worth applying to Walmart. Pay is quite good for retail. In this lounge, I believe only Amazon and Apple pay more than us for same level positions
And Walmart is hiring like crazy.
Cosanotra That only applies to as Walmart management says “key talent” out side of Arkansas. We in Arkansas are not Key Talent and we are treated as such the last five years.
Nordstrom pays well too...
Former JCP here. They pay well, and the pay to cost of living ratio in DFW is hard to beat. Walmart might be better on cost of living than DFW, but it means living in Bentonville... Absolute TC, Amazon would probably be the highest, but losing side of cost of living. It would help you set a waterline for the next position.
Amazon also treats their employees like crap.
Wayfair seems best option
The biggest financial reasons to go Wayfair is we're still growing 40% yoy, so chance of stock appreciation is high. Stock is volatile, so not a short term play. But definitely still the opportunity to make a tremendous amount over the next 3-5 years. For product, there are two different orgs--Storefront and Operations Product. I've heard decent things about storefront, but not as great things about operations product.
Amazon pays pretty well but not sure if you care about work life balance lol
Amazon is definitely a good option. The living cost will be cheaper and the salary will be more competitive!
Seattle isn't that much cheaper.
