Switching career path

I started my career as a technical analyst with a oil and gas software provider. Soon I was given more responsibilities of a consultant. Since it was a small company, the employees would wear multiple hats. I was more than happy to gather requirements based on customer feedback, work with the engineering team to get development work going, test that work etc. The company got acquired, I was still a consultant with bunch of extra responsibilities now. I was asked to mentor people, work with engineering team, sales team. But I was not given promotions or proper salary raises. And because of lack of technical work I decided to leave. I got hired by Appian as an implementation consultant. Here I deal with customer requirements, make changes to the apps. The work is more coding heavy (which I like). I have been here for a year now. But now I feel I want to do something different. I want to be in a role in which I help shape the product. I do not want to be in a constant customer facing role. How can I advance my career in product management? What kind of skills do I need to acquire? Is there a course that I should do? I have a master’s degree in Management Information System and 11 years of consulting experience. In addition to that I had few certifications in SQL, PL/ SQL. I am ready to grind to achieve this goal. I currently live in Dallas TC- 150k PS- this is my first post #interview #it #engineer #appian #productmanager
