Hi, I am 1 year into EM role and want to explore opportunities outside. How are the typical interview rounds divided for an EM role. Is still there a stress on DS Algo rounds or system design / behavioral rounds forms most of the interview process? Can somebody help with the breakdown of what their companies do for EM. #interview #manager Yoe: 11 years, Senior Engineering Manager
1 year in EM role and you are a senior EM?
thats just a title change from senior engineer to senior EM. We at Microsoft do not have anything below to Senior in EM role. Thats the natural trajectory, first you have to be senior engineer.
I see. L64?? Most FAANG need atleast 2 years of management role.
If you leave after just one year it will be seen as a failure, stay at least one more. Transferring teams internally is ok
reason for change will be just getting paid to market value. Microsoft pays shit. Nothing to do with failure at my role. But i see your point, if there will be a implicit bias irrespective of what i say
I don’t agree. Money is a big motivator and generally a year is a good timeframe to have stamped your influence on your team in some way.
They're, unfortunately, very heavy on the coding / algo / sys design. Surprisingly light on the behavioral management side.
Which company are you talking about? Most FAANG companies are heavy on behaviorial and system design. But light on coding.
Isn’t it 3 yoe in fb?
