Jealousy witnessing my same-sex crush get married. Yes I work at Nvidia but I have nothing else.
As parents, how did you make the choice of schools for your kids. If money isn’t a concern, are private schools strictly a better decision. Tc 1.5
Private schools are absolutely a better option. I dont think this is even a discussion.
The community is equally if not more important then the school itself. I'd send my kids to the school I feel has the best fit community wise...
1. Can you afford private? 2. Is your child intelligent? 3. Does your child have learning difficulties (like parental neglect masked as ADHD) If yes^3 you should do private
Send to private if you want them to become a corporate slave, send to public if you want them to discover themselves and their interests
Do your research. Look at the school curriculum of your public schools. I went with private for my kids because the public schools in my area got rid of advanced track / honors courses. So the smart kids are also mixed with the ones who don't do any work. If they had honors courses like the schools that I went to, I would have gone public.
Private school kids were always stuck up and scared of the world. Inflated grades because the teachers get paid more and the school has more money so they have to boost their stats. Harker sends 100% of their kids to 4 year universities? Most of the Harker kids I know are absolutely useless. Public schools get you in the weeds and show you some shit. Send your kids there.
They are not automatically better. Public schools may provide a varsity of clubs and choices. If the kid wants to play at a team sports, public schools have fierce competition to get into the team and sometimes that’s the reason parents enroll kids into private. Top ranked private schools are very difficult to get in. Some schools like Lakeside has less than 5% acceptance rate. Half of the private school kids in high school are from private middle schools. The new kids coming from public schools may be at disadvantage in that regard as the kids from private middle schools would have advanced in academics. For instance they might have already taken 3 years of Spanish while public kids start by taking Spanish 1 in high school. Note that kids are compared to the other kids from the same school. Some private schools have an impressive list of alumni who went to top colleges. However, note that many of them go into top ones because of legacy admission. Harvard for instance has 1/3 of new students getting in via legacy. Their acceptance rate is 7 times higher than non legacy when all others are similar. Religious private schools are a bit different. I have friends who say there is a lot of religious component in school curriculum that they feel a bit burdened (unless they are religious). So while half of them are from non religious family, they will still spend a lot of time on those activities. There are less trouble makers in them because some of them have strict rules and kids are driven out. You will notice kids tend to be quiet in there. You would want to go to their school tours to understand if you want private or not and which one will suit your kids. Top schools are competitive so don’t assume your kids can get in to a school of choice. You will need to apply for multiple of them. Less competitive schools may not feel like it is worth compared to great public schools.
Seriously that much made you in year 1.5?
