Just finished HRT’s new grad OA...got 1 easy(?) and 1 medium-hard(ish). Crushed it tbh. First question took me 5 mins, which I was surprised, and second question took me around 25 mins do to minor mistakes. Passed test cases, even large inputs and I’m 99.9% sure I got the optimal solution for both question. The only problem is my GPA. It’s not great at all, and I have a feeling they care + I go to a no name school. Y’all think my resume will get filtered out because of GPA regardless of performance? Guess just asking so I don’t get my hopes up if so
What role? If Algo then myeah, school name is kinda important
Just SWE
If we are talking to you, your resume already passed through filters, good luck 👍
I'm not sure if that's the case for new grad resumes btw. It's definitely true for experienced hires, but I think most experienced roles go straight to phone interviews
Any update?
Haven’t heard back yet, although I can tell you with certainty that I answered both questions perfectly. Still some luck involved. Will post an update in the comment if you turn notif on
Good luck
How long did it take for you to get the OA. Also, does everyone get an OA or there is some filtering before that as well ?
It was literally like 30 mins after applying. I think everyone gets the OA. I easy question (I don’t remember the type of question) and one medium-hard(ish) graph question

HRT and other similar finance companies unfortunately do filter by school and gpa. Part of it is finance as an industry cares more about it and part of it is these firms are much smaller than FAANG so they need to filter somehow. School and gpa are two signals they use. Definitely bad signals but they don’t have the resources to interview as many people as google
Ah that’s too bad. We’ll get em next time
